Bill and Margot Zell met at summer Camp in Ontario Canada where they had the privilege of doing 4-6 week canoe trips in the Canadian Sheild. They never recovered.
Bill, a computer science geek bounced around a few mega corporations before ditching it all to become a NOLS instructor. He has taught Whitewater canoeing on various rivers around the US.
In 1992, he started a rafting company, Montana Whitewater near Yellowstone Park.
In 1996, he invited Margot out to work for him as a guide in Montana. She took him up on it. That fall, they went on a 12 day NOLS scouting trip on the Turnagain River in Northern British Colombia. Bill and Margot Fell in Love. They paddled the Spatsizi River into the Stikine and then hit the Bowren Lakes which froze up on them. Since then, they have paddled many rivers in the West and Northwest together. Bill is a certified canoe and kayak instructor and they both guide raft trips.
They have done two canoeing expeditions in Mongolia, the second of which was funded by the Shipton Tilman Grant. They paddled the entire length of the Khovd River in a month and a half and then hitch hiked across the Gobi Desert. Ask them about the $100 Turnip.
